The GMMCO Advantage

GMMCO seals provide unsurpassed leak protection. During our unique manufacturing process, the knife-edges of GMMCO seals can be hardened-allowing the knife-edge to actually penetrate the softer material of the mating surface. Combining this with a built-in mechanism for sustaining pressure creates a perfect mating seal that won't fail even in the toughest environments.


In assembly when the seal is compressed, the seal edges, which are .003 - .005'' higher than the sealer support, compress with each diaphragm equally to the plane of the sealer support. In so doing the very fine #1 micro finish of the 65 RC nitrided .0002 - .0005'' knife edge radii penetrates deep into the mating surfaces simultaneously-thereby creating an absolutely perfect seal. Sealing is maintained by the built-in predetermined strength and thickness of the diaphragm being held in place by the initial sustained pressure.

GMMCO Proprietary Design Features

  • Spring Loaded Diaphram: A feature designed by GMMCO to provide spring back, while also maintaining the strength to withstand extreme pressures and temperatures. The spring-diaphragm is processed using our unique tooling designs, as well as our special forming and machine turning skills on automatic screw machines. All GMMCO seals are made from round stainless steel bar stock.
  • Knife-Edge Radius: Designed by GMMCO to penetrate mating surfaces to ensure no leakage. This .0002 - .0005'' nitride hard radius with a #1 micro finish was originally designed to solve critical leakage problems for Pratt & Whitney fuel nozzles for jet and gas turbine engines. Our knife-edge seals are the ideal choice for sealing the most demanding high-pressure gas and liquid applications.
  • Selective Nitriding Process: GMMCO co-developed a unique nitride process to harden our knife-edge radii selectively, leaving the rest of the part free of nitride if desired. Our unique nitride process is performed with a proprietary processing technique that allows us to nitride the very fine .0002 - .0005'' knife-edge radii to 65RC without the common anomalies found in most nitride processes, such as pitting and spalling. Remember, our knife-edge radii must be visually perfect under a 30-power microscope. No nicks, no pits...PERFECT!
